Des Plaines Summer Fling

When/Where: Friday, July 13 from 5-11 p.m., Saturday, July 14, noon to 11 p.m. and Sunday, July 15 from noon to 11 p.m. at Ellinwood and Pearson streets in downtown Des Plaines.

Why Go: A non-stop music lineup, arts and craft vendors, kids' activities including pony rides and a petting zoo, food vendors and carnival rides. Among the many music performers are '60s and '70s pop legends the Ides of March featuring Jim Peterik and '70s pop teen idol David Cassidy.

Pricing: Suggested donation $3.

When/Where: Saturday, July 14 from 8-11 a.m. starting at the Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson St.

Why Go: This is a flat course, through residential streets in downtown Des Plaines. T-shirts will be given to the first 300 registered runners and walkers. Water will be available at the start, finish, and on the course. Splits are provided at every mile. Refreshments are provided. Free parking.

Pricing: $20.

Why Go: Visit our member businesses and view their products and services. Enter free raffle prize drawings with a chance to win the Kindle Fire and other great prizes and give-a-ways and support local businesses.

Representatives from the Illinois Treasurer's Cash Dash Program will be available to conduct database searches for residents to find unclaimed property.

Why Go: A sale of handmade items by the Center's volunteer craft group. The crafters have been working on new items for the gift shop. Stop in during the Summer Fling to see their latest work. Proceeds help support the Des Plaines History Center.
