Preschool at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines may close

The families who utilize the daycare center at Oakton Community College's Des Plaines campus were notified that the center may close, according to to the Daily Herald. Families received a November 9 letter from the college, which may close the center after June.

Several parents who use the center expressed their dismay to the college trustees at a meeting last week. A second letter explained that financial strain, caused by a decrease in state funding, has led the college to consider closing the daycare center.

The preschool doubles as a lab for Oakton's early childhood education program, in which 300 students observed child care techniques this year. College officials said the preschool at their Skokie campus could fulfill the academic needs of those studying early childhood development.
