Work to start on residential development in Des Plaines
Hundreds of apartments and townhomes are planned for a former industrial site

City officials and representatives from the developer, Buckingham Properties, are scheduled to attend an opening ceremony at 7:30 on Friday at the site of the new construction, 800 E. Northwest Highway, according to the Daily Herald.
The $90 million development will consist of 127 townhomes and 270-unit, five-story apartment building. The site has been vacant since electrical manufacturer Littlefuse relocated in 2008. Construction is expected to take up to three years.
Buckingham Properties hope the amenities of the new development and its proximity to a Metra station will attract younger residents. Rent for the apartments is expected to be $1,200 per month and the townhomes would cost between $300,000 and $350,000.
