5 Downers Grove Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — If you’re like many of your Downers Grove neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Downers Grove area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

SEASPAR: The Southeast Special Recreation Association aids park districts and other organizations in creating programming and opportunities for residents with special needs.

The Backpack Project: The Backpack Project was founded by Ryan Gustis, then 9, to provide backpacks full of supplies to people in need.

Downers Grove Area FISH: This pantry provides items for food insecure families in and around Downers Grove.

West Suburban Humane Society: The West Suburban Humane Society gives care and support to animals who are looking for their forever families.

Watts of Love: Watts of Love helps provide solar lighting and other resources for communities in need throughout the world.
