DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Plans to improve the playground at McCollum Park recently got a big boost with a $600,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant funds were given to more than 100 park districts to help create more recreational opportunities in local communities.

The park district plans to begin work in 2026 on the McCollum Park Playground Improvement Project, marking the first time in over 20 years that the playground has undergone significant upgrades.

Ramped access, a zipline, taller slides and spinners are just some of the enhancements planned for the project. The funds will also be used to add a safer playground surface and to make renovations to the nearby fitness path, seating area and horseshoe courts.
