Attempted Home Burglary in Downers Grove: Police Blotter

Attempted Home Burglary

Police responded to the 3900 block of Glendenning Road around 7:10 p.m. for a report of an attempted home burglary, according to reports.

The homeowner told officers she was home by herself, talking on the phone upstairs, when she heard the doorbell ring two or three times. After the last ring, a minute or two passed and she heard a noise coming from the back door, police said.

The woman then heard a loud thud in the kitchen area, which she thought could be her son coming home from work. She walked to the top of the stair railing that overlooks the family room, and did not see her son or any lights on downstairs, according to police.

About 10 minutes later, the woman's son arrived home and they began looking around near the back door, police said. They noticed the motion detector light was no longer mounted to the outside of the house, but rather lying upside down on the railing of the back porch. 

The kitchen window was slightly open with pry marks, police said. Nothing was stolen, and no further actions were taken.

THURSDAY, JAN. 10

Cargo Van Burglarized on Finley Road

A work van was burglarized in the 3000 block of Finley Road sometime between 9 p.m. on Jan. 9 and 4 p.m. on Jan. 10, police said. Several items were taken from the rear cargo of the van, including two 22-inch touch screen monitors and one 32-inch touch screen monitor, according to reports.
