DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The Washington Street crossing will be closed temporarily in Downers Grove to accommodate ongoing work on the village's Civic Center project. The closure will take effect Oct. 9.

Construction on the $60 million Downers Grove Civic Center kicked off in late summer of 2022. The space will comprise the village hall, police station and administrative offices for District 58. As the project, progresses, the eastern part of the Washington Street intersection will be eliminated to make way for pedestrian paths and facilitate traffic flow to the civic center.

It's expected that the Downers Grove Civic Center will be complete by 2024, according to village officials. The Washington Street closure is expected to last through Oct. 23.
