DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove trustees offered favorable feed back to a proposal for zoning and planned unit development (PUD) amendment and a special use permit to build a Green State Credit Union with a drive-thru at the intersection of Butterfield and Esplanade Roads.

The proposal, which was recommended by the planning and zoning committee at its June 2 meeting, got its first reading at the June 17 village council meeting.

Proposed is a 5,000 square foot credit union with a drive-thru that would be located on the east side of the building, in the Butterfield Road Focus Area. Cars would move counter-clockwise through the drive-thru and enter and exit through the same access road used by Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant.

Mayor Bob Barnett said the planning and zoning committee had determined the proposed development met the standards for the area's planned unit development and zoning amendments. The special use permit would allow the credit union to have a drive-thru.

Trustee Martin Tully said it appeared the site was " a pretty darn good place to put a drive-thru," noting that there would be "zero impact on any neighborhood."

Tully brought up the possilbity of overflow parking from Cooper's Hawk using the bank parking lot. Both he and the petitioner representative Tim Reck agreed that banking hours would help make the parking lot available for Cooper's Hawk customers during the restaurant's peak hours.

Tully said a parking agreemen could help prevent Cooper's Hawk customers from having to park across the street.

Reck suggested just leaving the parking an open possiblity unless snow parking issues interfere.

Reck said, "We’re a pretty easygoing neighbor."

Green State Credit Union has many in-person banking locations and over 30,000 ATMs throughout the midwest, according to its website, including locations in the Quad Cities metro area, Nebraska and Cedar Rapids.

In the greater Chicago area, Green State Credit Union currently has locations in Addison, Naperville, Freeport, Park Ridge, Plainfield, Rockford, St. Charles, Westmont and Woodstock.
