David Olson Will Replace Ron Sandack as 81st District Rep.
Olson has resigned from his position on the Downers Grove Village Council.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove's David Olson has resigned from his seat on the village council as he prepares to take the place of Ron Sandack as the 81st District State Representative.
Olsen's resignation will be effective Aug. 3, according to the village of Downers Grove.
"I am honored to have been selected for this position. It's a great privilege to serve the Downers Grove community and I look forward to serving the entire 81st District in this new capacity," Olsen said in a statement.

Olsen will keep his position on the College of DuPage board until the next board election in April, according to the Chicago Tribune, and he will run in the November general election against his fellow Downers Grove commissioner, Greg Hose.
He also works in the regulatory compliance field at a major commodities trading company in Chicago, according to the village.

"Since being elected to council in 2013, David has shown considerable leadership skills and dedication to public service," Downers Grove Mayor Martin Tully said in a statement. "His thorough understanding of community issues and commitment to government transparency make him well suited to represent the 81st District."
Olsen's term on the village council would have expired in May 2017. He was first elected to the council in 2013, and he served as mayor pro tem in 2015. He attended Hillcrest Elementary School, O'Neill Middle School and Downers Grove South High School before studying business at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
He now serves on the Board of Directors for the District 58 Education Foundation, and he is a member of Chamber630 and the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1535. He was elected as vice chairman of the Downers Grove Township Republican Organization in 2014, according to the village.
"David is an exceptional public servant and he'll be a great State Representative for us," said DuPage GOP Chairman Brian Krajewski in a statement. "As Downers Grove Commissioner and recently as COD Trustee, David fights for taxpayers and brings people together for commonsense solutions."
The village of Downers Grove is accepting applications for Olsen's vacant council position until 5 p.m. Aug. 5.
