Fake ID Used To Get Loan, Buy Car In Downers Grove: Cops

Police say a man used a fake ID with information that belonged to a Memphis, Tennessee, man.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A man used a fake ID with information that belonged to a man from Tennessee to get a loan and buy a car in Downers Grove, according to police. The incident took place Nov. 7 at Castle Hyundai of Downers Grove.

Police were alerted on Dec. 4 after the Memphis man called Castle Hyundai to report that someone had used his information to buy a car. The dealership told police the man who bought the car had used the ID to for the loan application and credit check.

The identity theft victim reported that his information had also been fraudulently used to apply for credit cards.

GPS linked to the vehicle located it in the 200 block of Robin Drive in Sauk Village, Illinois. Sauk Village police later found and seized the stolen car in the the 19000 block of North Halsted in Chicago Heights.

Per the Downers Grove Police Department's crime blotter, no suspect had been identified.
