DGN Teacher Honored as Finalist for 2016 Music Educator Award

Downers Grove, IL - Downers Grove North music instructor Brayer Teague accepted a $1,000 honorarium from Ford on April 22 at the school's spring pep rally in front of the whole school.

Teague is one of 10 finalists for the 2016 Music Educator Award, and he was honored by the GRAMMY Foundation®, The Recording Academy® and Ford Motor Company Fund.

Accepting a matching $1,000 grant on behalf of Downers Grove North High School was the student who nominated him, according to the Ford Motor Company Fund.

The Music Educator Award, a joint partnership of The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation, was established to recognize educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools, according to Grammy in the Schools.

More than 4,500 educators across all 50 states were nominated for the award.

Phillip Riggs of North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, N.C., was selected as the 2016 winner. Riggs received a $10,000 honorarium and matching school grant and will attend the Annual GRAMMY Awards ceremony.
