Downers Grove-Based DeVry Facing Investigations in Illinois, Massachusetts
The investigations were revealed in a corporate filing that the higher-education company placed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
DeVry Inc., the Downers Grove-based for-profit higher-education company that runs DeVry University and the DeVry Institute of Technology, is facing investigations from the offices of the attorneys general of both Illinois and Massachusetts, the Chronicle of Higher Education reports.
According to the Chronicle, a DeVry Securities and Exchange Commission filing reveals that the investigation in Illinois concerts the Higher Education Act's prohibition on paying incentive compensation, while one in Massachusetts concerns whether the company submitted false information about loans, guarantees and grants for students.
The company told the Chronicle that it is approaching the investigations “with a view toward transparency and an interest in demonstrating the compliant nature of its practices in cooperation with the authorities.”
