Downers Grove Icearena Closes After More Than 50 Years
Classes at the Walnut Avenue rink will be held at the Carol Stream location starting April 30.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — After more than 50 years, the Downers Grove Icearena will shut its doors. Owners made the announcement in early April via their Facebook page, writing that they are "saddened to close the door at [their] current home."
The Downers Grove rink, located at 5501 Walnut Ave., offered public skating, hockey games, synchronized skating training and ice skating classes for skaters of all levels. Rentals were also available for parties and other special events.
After the Downers Grove Icearena made their announcement, followers took to Facebook to share their dismay for the closure, along with some of their fond memories, in the comments.

Chrissy C. wrote, "Wow. I will definitely need to come by for a last skate here. This place was so familiar, it felt like home. I’m glad Carol Stream will still be open, but it’s not quite the same."
