Downers Grove Music Club Donates Grand Piano to Library

A new partnership is here, complete with a grand piano and a year of musical performances for your enjoyment. The Downers Grove Music Club - Downers Grove Public Library Music Series has been planned to enrich the musical life of our community.

The Downers Grove Music Club purchased a Feurich Model 218 Concert I Grand Piano and donated the instrument, bench, and accessories to the Downers Grove Public Library. Developed in France by Clair and Stephen Paulello, the piano features stainless Paulello-string-wire, uniquely constructed hammer heads by Renner of Stuttgart, with AA rated quality felts from the Wurzen factory. The piano also has a new invention, a fourth pedal - the Pédal Harmonique - that produces an effect similar to the resonance of a concert hall.

Last year, as part of the music club’s investment in community arts programs, they funded the restoration of the concert piano at Downers Grove South High School and the purchase of two new digital pianos at Downers Grove North High School. This year’s grand piano gift to the library is another generous investment.

Join the library Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. for the inauguration of the piano concert at the Downers Grove Public Library, 1050 Curtiss St. Musicians will perform selections including Debussy’s Clair de Lune and Gershwin’s Three Preludes on the new Feurich grand piano. Reception with refreshments will follow. The concert is free and all are invited to attend.
