Celebrate Arbor Day by helping to grow the urban canopy in Downers Grove! On April 30, the Downers Grove Park District will provide free seedlings to residents while supplies last. Choose to plant a red oak, swamp white oak or bur oak seedling in your own yard. Planting instructions will be provided. To reserve your seedling and pickup location, please complete the Arbor Day form. Seedling pickup will be available from 10am to 1pm at Hummer Park (4833 Fairview Ave.) and from 3 to 6pm at O'Brien Park (6909 Dunham Rd.). The seedling giveaway is available to Park District residents only.
Here is a list of the trees we have to give away in 2021:
Red Oak
Mature Height: 60-75 ft.
Mature Width: 60-75 ft.
Light Exposure: full to partial sun
Soil Preference: Moist, well drained
Swamp White Oak
Mature Height: 50-60 ft.
Mature Width: 50-60 ft.
Light Exposure: Full sun
Soil Preference: Moist, well drained
Bur Oak
Mature Height: 50 ft.
Mature Width: 50 ft.
Light Exposure: Full sun
Soil Preference: Moist, well drained
