"EQuality Downers Grove strongly condemns President Trump's recent unlawful* Executive Orders violating the civil rights of the LGBTQ+ community, particularly targeting transgender individuals. These directives represent a significant regression in the fight for equality and human rights, undermining decades of progress. By maintaining federal agencies to recognize only a binary of sex, the Administration is effectively denying the existence of transgender and nonbinary individuals. Furthermore, these actions pose tangible threats to the health, safety, and well-being of these individuals by denying access to essential medical care, erasing recognition of their identities, and inciting discrimination, hatred, and violence toward the LGBTQ+ community.

We call upon all individuals and organizations committed to justice and equality to contact your elected officials at the federal and state levels to assert your opposition to these cruel and unust Executive Orders. We further urge policymakers to advocate for the protection and affirmation of LGBTQ+ rights, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression are treated with dignity, respect, and value."

EQDG followed the message with information for constituents to contact their representatives and congresspeople.

The post from EQDG sharing the statement had elicited a slew of comments from Facebook users both in support and against their stance. As of 2:20 p.m., it appeared comments for the post had been turned off.
