Garage Fire Halts Tuesday Morning Rush on Lemont Road

No one was injured in the fire in unincorporated Downers Grove.

The Darien-Woodridge Fire District was called to a structure fire at 6:44 a.m. Dec. 1 near Lemont Road and Woodcrest Drive in unincorporated Downers Grove, close to Interstate 55 and Lemont Road.

A detached garage or workshop was on fire about 50 feet off Lemont Road, the first arriving unit confirmed.

The size of the fire required more water than the 1,000-gallon tanks on two fire engines at the scene, according to the Darien-Woodridge Fire District. All lanes of Lemont Road had to be closed during the morning rush so firefighters could reach hydrants on the opposite side of the road.
