Marine Returns For Pinning Ceremony At Downers South

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A Downers Grove South graduate will return to the campus for his pinning ceremony. First Lieutenant USMC Ramarro Lamar will be promoted to Captain on Oct. 10.

Lamar, a former wrestler at Downers South, chose wrestling coach Sean Lovelace and Dean Sheldon Davis to conduct the ceremony.

“I am so excited to get back to where everything started for me and celebrate this moment as I view this milestone as a collective achievement," Lamar said in a statement to Community High School District 99.

Lovelace said, "It is such an honor to be able to share in Ramarro's success and achievements. Ramarro has always left an indelible mark on anyone he has crossed paths with and we are so incredibly proud of all he has done and for his future."

In addition to wrestling, Lamar was part of the track and field and football teams, along with the African American Student Union.

Lamar joined the Marines after he graduate from the University of Nebraska.

Dean Davis described Lamar as having "set the standard for what a DGS alumnus should be." He added, "I’m extremely proud of all of his accomplishments and I know he will continue to be a dynamic leader in the United States Marine Corps.”
