Residents can choose to opt out of the mosquito spraying. See how.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Crews will use a fogging machine to spray mosquito deterrent in Downers Grove on Aug. 1.

The mosquito spraying will be performed by Clarke Mosquito Control, which uses a low-volume application of Merus Adulticide to target adult mosquitos. The deterrent's active ingredient is natural pyrethrins sourced from flowers similar to chrysanthemums, according to Merus.

A post on the Village of Downers Grove website states, "This product is acceptable for use in organic-certified farms, gardens and residential areas and meets the USDA’s National Organic Program standards."
