Nativity Statue Decapitated, Woman Arrested for Marijuana Possession: Police Blotter

MONDAY, JAN. 7
Drug Possession
Leila El-Saghir, 21, of the 4100 block of Kingshill Circle in Naperville, was arrested around 12:12 a.m. near 75th Street and Woodward Avenue, police said.
An officer stopped El-Saghir after noticing her crossing over the white lane dividers several times and speeding, according to reports. During the stop, the officer detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana, police said.

During a search of the vehicle, officers reportedly recovered four smoking pipes and 3.98 grams of marijuana, police said.
El-Saghir was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cannabis less than 10 grams, and was issued citations for speeding and no insurance. She was issued a Feb. 20 court date.

Car Burglary on Wilson Avenue
A car was burglarized in the 600 block of Wilson Avenue sometime between 9:25 p.m. and 10:20 p.m., police said. A pair of sunglasses and an iPhone were stolen.
Nativity Figure Decapitated
The head of a Joseph statue was broken off and stolen from a Christmas nativity scene in the 5200 block of Grand Avenue, police said.
The incident happened sometime between noon on Jan. 5 and 7 p.m. on Jan. 7, according to the homeowner.
SUNDAY, JAN. 6
Retail Theft at Fry's Electronics
Kevin C. Vazquez, 20, of the 0-50 block of Yorkshire Woods in Oak Brook, was arrested around 11:38 a.m. at Fry's Electronics, 3300 Finley Road in Downers Grove, police said.
A Fry's employee told police he noticed Vazquez enter the store and recognized him from a store bulletin as someone who had possibly stolen merchandise in the past, according to reports. The employee followed Vazquez, and saw him take a small Apple TV box and walk around the store with it, police said.
At some point, Vazquez removed the plastic shrink wrap from the box and placed the Apple TV and remote in his jacket pockets, police said. He was stopped by employees as he tried to leave the store.
Vazquez was charged with retail theft and was released on an I-Bond.
FRIDAY, JAN. 4
Retail Theft at Kohl's
Letitia M. DiAndrea, 44, of Glen Ellyn, was arrested around 5 p.m. at Kohl's, 2920 Finley Road in Downers Grove, police said.
Kohl's employees detained DiAndrea after she tried to leave the store without paying for a pair of Sonoma women's boots valued at $32.97, police said.
She was charged with one count of retail theft and was released on an I-Bond.
