Recreation Center Renamed To Honor Cathy Mahoney
Mahoney, who served on the Downers Grove Park District board for nearly 20 years, was instrumental in bringing several projects to life.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The Downers Grove Recreation Center has been renamed to honor Cathy Mahoney, a longtime park district board member who was instrumental in its inception. Mahoney served on the board for nearly 20 years, helping to bring several projects to life.
The current Downers Grove Park District Board of Commissioners voted Feb. 20 in favor of the renaming.
During her tenure with the park district, Mahoney served as secretary, treasurer, vice president and president. She had a hand in the development and construction of several beloved parks and amenities in the village, including Washington Park and the Veteran's Memorial Pavilion.

Mahoney also helped facilitate renovations and improvements to Blodgett House, Doerhoefer Park, Belmont Golf Club and McCollum Park.
“Cathy Mahoney’s unwavering commitment to the Downers Grove Park District has left an indelible mark on our community,” Park Board of Commissioners President Bob Kotula said in a statement.

He added, “Renaming the Recreation Center in her honor is a testament to her dedication and the lasting impact she has made.”
A dedication ceremony will be held this spring to commemorate the renaming.
