Retail Thefts Reported At Jewel, Wannemaker's, In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police are investigating a retail theft that took place at Wannemaker's and another that took place at Jewel in Downers Grove. During the burglary at Jewel, more than $3,500 in liquor was stolen.

Retail Theft at Wannemaker's

A retail theft was reported at Wannemaker's, 1940 Ogden Ave., on April 5. Police were called to the garden supply store at 1940 Ogden Ave. around 2 p.m. after employees said oil diffusers had been missing from their inventory. The staff said they reviewed surveillance footage and saw a woman, who they said was a preferred customer, stealing the items, which were valued at $58.40.

Retail Theft at Jewel

Police say a woman stole more than $3,700 in alcohol from the Jewel at 6215 Main St. on April 19. The woman came into the store around 11:54 p.m. and began filling a cart with the following bottles of alcohol, according to a police report:

  • 18 bottles of Hennessy cognac
  • 12 bottles of Hennessy V.S.O.P.
  • 12 bottles of Moet and Chandon champagne
  • Eight bottles of Don Julio tequila
  • Eight bottles of Patron tequila
  • Six bottles of Remy Martin cognac

Employees say she also stole makeup items. The total loss was valued at $3,765.36.
