Sandack Reported Internet Scam to Downers Grove Police
Sandack said he quit because politics were getting too ugly, reports say.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Before his abrupt resignation on July 24, former Rep. Ron Sandack reported an internet scam to Downers Grove police.
Sandack walked into the Downers Grove Police Department lobby July 14, and he told an officer of events that began July 7, according to a mostly-redacted police report released by the department.
The redacted items in the report include private information, items related to personal privacy and information that would hinder the ongoing police investigation if released, according to the police records and information manager.

The Illinois State Police offered to help with the investigation, the Daily Herald reports, but the local police department said it didn't need assistance.

Sandack said he resigned because politics had become "too ugly," according to the Chicago Tribune, and he said several fake social media accounts were opened recently under his name, though none of his information was compromised before he deleted his own accounts.

In the statement he released Sunday night, Sandack said he decided to leave office because of cyber security issues and because he wants to spend more time with his family.
House Republican Leader Jim Durkin said in a statement Monday that Sandack is a dedicated and caring public servant, and Durkin wished him well in future endeavors.
Gov. Bruce Rauner commented on Sandack's resignation Tuesday after an event in Auburn, Illinois.
"I really can't comment much on Mr. Sandack's situation. I heard about it yesterday [Monday] morning, the same time I think most of you did. I'm not sure what all is going on there, so I can't comment."
