So, You Want to Get a Dog? You Might Want to Attend This Downers Grove Seminar
Professionals will cover topics from house training to costs in a free Humane Society presentation for prospective dog owners.
The West Suburban Humane Society will be holding a seminar in Downers Grove this Wednesday for prospective dog-owners about anything and everything you should consider before adopting a furry friend.
Featured speakers Mary Edwards, a certified humane educator at the Humane Society, and Pam Yano, a professional dog trainer, will chat with event-goers at the "So, You Want to Get a Dog" seminar from 7-8:30 p.m. Jan. 25.
Edwards and Yano, whose specialities lie with training service dogs, trick dogs and therapy dogs, will address a myriad of topics to help hopeful owners with their search for the right pet and help them ease the transition into a dog-owning household.

Topics covered will include house training, transitioning, the benefits of training with a professional, breeds and ages of dogs, acclimating dogs to their new environment, costs of raising a dog and more. The suggested donation for the free seminar is $5.
According to a release from the Humane Society, there will be an opportunity after the presentation to meet with rescue groups and their dogs, as well as talk to Humane Society reps.
