Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Metra Train In Downers Grove

Commuters were advised to expect delays for inbound and outbound trains. All train traffic was halted at the Main Street Station.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A pedestrian was hit and killed by an eastbound BNSF Metra train late Monday afternoon, halting trains in both directions at the Main Street station in Downers Grove.

The crash took place in the 1400 block of Gilbert Ave around 4:36 p.m., according to Downers Grove Police Deputy Chief Jim McGreal. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Just before 4:45 p.m., Metra shared an alert about the crash, which involved train #1272, advising commuters that there would be "extensive delays."
