Two Drivers Killed on New Year's Day in Darien Car Crash
A Downers Grove woman and a Darien man died in the head-on collision.
A fatal car crash in Darien claimed the lives of two drivers on New Year’s Day.
The deceased have been identified as Mary A. Dziekan, 64 of Downers Grove, and Mark D. Maran Jr., 32 of Darien, according to Darien police.
Officers were called at 10:25 a.m. Jan. 1 to the 700 block of Plainfield Road for reports of a two-car crash with injuries.

One car was westbound on Plainfield Road, and the other car was eastbound when the crash took place. Both drivers had to be extricated from their cars. Tri-State and Westmont fire departments took them to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, police reported.
No other passengers or cars were involved in the crash.

The Darien Police Department and the Felony Investigative Assistance Team – Accident Reconstruction Unit are investigating.
