Vape Complaint Sparks Fight At Gas Station In Downers Grove

Police say the early morning fight began after a customer threatened a clerk over a broken vape.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A fight broke out in the parking lot of a Downers Grove gas station after a customer threatened to "beat up" a clerk over a broken vape in late June.

Police were called to the Mobil at 2831 63rd St. around 1 a.m. on June 29 for a report of a fight. Police say a man came into the store complaining that a vape device he bought there three days earlier was not working properly.

The man was "irate and argumentative," a police blotter said. He then went behind the counter and said her would "beat up" the clerk.

Police say two other customers tried to intervene and that the man punched one of the customers in the face, causing them to fall.

After the man left the store, the injured customer followed him outside and the two had a brief physical altercation, per the police report. Both the suspect and the customer left the scene.
