ELGIN, IL — A 60-year-old man was killed while riding his bicycle Wednesday when he "made contact" with a car near the intersection of Randall and Big Timber Roads, police said.
Officials were called to the scene of the crash at around 11:49 a.m. Preliminary investigation revealed a 24-year-old man was driving his car southbound on Randall Road when the bicyclist, who was riding near the curb in the righthand lane, attempted to move into the left lane where the car was, according to a social media statement.
Emergency personnel took the bicyclist to Advocate Sherman Hospital where he later died. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, the Kane County Coroner's Office said. Police said they know the man's identity but are waiting to release his name until his relatives have been notified of his death.
