Off-Duty Cook County Sergeant Killed In Elgin Crash: Police

Elgin police said a car driven by the off-duty sergeant hit a pole before coming to a stop in the 1100 block of Dundee Avenue Sunday.

ELGIN, IL β€” An off-duty Cook County Sheriff's office sergeant is dead after a car crash Sunday in Elgin, according to the Elgin Police Department. Elgin police and fire department crews were called to a car crash at 4:29 p.m. where early investigation shows the car was driven southbound across northbound lanes, before hitting a utility pole and coming to a stop in the 1100 block of Dundee Avenue, the department said. According to police, the other passenger in the car wasn't injured.

The driver, who was identified as the off-duty sheriff's sergeant, was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, the Kane County Coroner's office said.
