• Elgin Missing Person Alert: Miguel Segura, 55 (hoodline.com) — Elgin police are asking residents to help locate 55-year-old Miguel Segura, last seen Nov. 25 near State and National streets and often around Clock Tower Plaza and the Fox River bike path. Detectives say there’s no indication he’s in danger but they’re actively investigating, and urge anyone with information to call 911 or the non-emergency line and reference case 2025-76430.

• New Elgin budget includes 13.2% property tax hike, fee increases (chicagotribune.com) — Elgin’s newly approved 2026 budget brings a 13.2% property tax increase plus higher water, sewer, and garbage fees, meaning hundreds more per year for many homeowners. City officials cite inflation and rising pension costs, while some residents and one council member warn the growing tax burden is squeezing seniors and families.
• Bison roaming in Kane County for first time in 200 years (chicagotribune.com) — Kane County has introduced a free-range-style bison herd at Burlington Prairie Forest Preserve, while Elgin’s Lords Park continues to host its own two bison in a zoo enclosure. The new herd will eventually roam about 100 fenced acres, with public viewing expected once seasonal gates reopen and spring events are scheduled.
