Roadside Safety Checks In Kane County This Weekend: ISP
Police will be out in force to ensure safe driving habits this weekend.
ELGIN, IL — The Illinois State Police is conducting roadside safety checks the weekend of Oct. 4, according to a release the police agency sent out.
"The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois," the release says, adding that officers will be watching out for drivers who are operating unsafely.
They'll also be watching out for people driving on a suspended or revoked license, transporting open alcoholic drinks and more.

"Most importantly," police say, they'll be looking for people:
- Driving under the influence
- Seat belt and child restraint use
- Speeding
- Distracted Driving
- All other Illinois vehicle code and criminal violations
The release did not specify any locations where they'll be conducting the checks.

The project, funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation, noted that nearly 10,000 people in the United States die annually due to alcohol-impaired driving. They added that alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in over 30 percent of fatal crashes in Illinois.
