State Police Issue Dozens Of Citations In Seat Belt Campaign
The month-long campaign was taken on with the intention of strictly enforcing seat belt laws.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The Illinois State Police announced the results of their seat belt patrol campaign in Cook and Kane counties, which yielded dozens of citations and warnings.
A release provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation says officers were patrolling the Tri-State Tollway (I-94, I-294 and I-80) in Cook County and on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) in Cook and Kane Counties.
The project was funded by the Department of Transportation's Division of Traffic Safety.

Here's what they took on:
- 55 seat belt violations
- three speeding citations
- four drivers license offense citations
- 17 other citations
This made for 79 total citation and nine written warnings, according to the release.

The release says that in 2017, almost a quarter of the 1,090 people killed in Illinois traffic crashes weren't wearing seat belts. The goal of the program was to enforce all seat belt laws and reduce traffic fatalities.
