2 Juveniles Face Charges In Drive-By Near Elgin School
A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured in the Dec. 3 shooting, and remains hospitalized, according to police.

ELGIN, IL β Two juveniles are facing charges stemming from a Tuesday incident in the area of Washburn and Billings streets in which an Elgin teenager was hit and injured by gunfire during a drive-by shooting, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's office. As of Friday afternoon, Elgin police officials said the victim, a 14-year-old girl, is still in the hospital in stable condition, and is expected to recover from her injuries. The juveniles are in custody at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center, according to the state's attorney's office.
Multiple residents called to report the shooting to police after shots were fired near the intersection around 4 p.m. Tuesday near Lowrie Elementary School, according to authorities.
When officers arrived, they determined that shots were fired from at least one car towards another one nearby, and the teen victim was found hurt in a car at the intersection of Highland Avenue and State street, authorities said.

The case was reviewed by the Kane County Stateβs Attorneyβs office, and although authorities are no longer looking for additional suspects, this case remains open as more follow-up investigation is taking place, and gang-motivation is being explored, police said.
On Tuesday, police said the teen wasn't the intended target and the shooting doesn't appear to be a random act. A man that was in the car with the teen was "cooperating with investigators," police said Wednesday.
On Wednesday morning, officers conducted another canvass of the area where the shooting occurred and returned again on Wednesday afternoon as police hoped to find new information that would lead them to any persons of interest or suspects, before the two juveniles were arrested in the case.
