Burpee World Record Broken by Elmhurst Gym Owner

Nick Janowitz did 10,160 burpees Monday, unofficially breaking the world record for most burpees done in 24 hours.


Elmhurst, IL - Nick Janowitz of Elmhurst did 10,160 burpees May 2 to break the world record for most burpees done in 24 hours.

Janowitz actually broke the record in about 17 hours, and that was just one of three burpee world records he broke, unofficially.

He also completed 7,138 burpees in 12 hours to break the previous record of 6,800, and he broke the one-minute record by doing 50 burpees in 60 seconds.

Janowitz, who owns Patriot Sports and Fitness, will submit evidence of his record-breaking burpees to to Guinness World Records for assessment.

The gym hosted a crowd of people, entertained by games, raffles and a DJ, as Nick closed in on the record. During the festivities, the gym also collected donations for One for the Kids, which benefits children of the Chicagoland area.

"That sucked," Janowitz laughed in a video he posted to Facebook from deep within some couch cushions after he got home Monday night. "I don't know what to say, but it was horrible."

He also thanked friends, supporters, sponsors and his wife, Tracey Janowitz.

"What a frickin' rush it was," he said. "Thank you guys, it was just a great day and I'm so blessed to have so many great friends."
