Cars Stolen From Elmhurst Dealerships: Police

In other cases, a man is passing counterfeit bills at local businesses, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving stolen cars, counterfeit bills, loud music, theft, fraud and DUI. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Stolen cars

  • About 5 a.m. Tuesday, an officer noticed that someone appeared to have broken into Al Piemonte Buick, 364 W. Grand Ave. The east service bay doors were damaged. A car was stolen. An investigation is pending.
  • After an officer found an abandoned car, the officer learned it had been stolen about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday from My Choice Motors, 530 W. Grand Ave. The car was towed to the police station for further investigation.

Counterfeit bills

  • A man paid for items with two counterfeit $100 bills about 5 p.m. Feb. 5 at Ace Hardware, 145 E. First St. An investigation is pending. The incident was reported six days later. The man was described as black, 18 to 30, and wearing a white shirt, a blue sweatshirt, a blue puffy North Face jacket, a black winter hat, black jeans and white gym shoes. Around the same time, a man with a similar description presented counterfeit bills at Kilwins ice cream shop, 148 N. York St., police said. The businesses are a couple of blocks from each other.

Loud music

  • A 66-year-old man who lives in the 700 block of South Saylor Avenue was cited about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at his house on a charge of loud music. Police said he was playing the music in violation of a city ordinance. He has been ticketed for this issue several times.

Theft

  • A woman pumped gas and left without paying about 1:30 p.m. Monday at BP gas station, 217 E. Butterfield Road. Police found the woman, who said she thought she had paid. She returned and paid for it.

Fraud

  • A resident in the 300 block of South Holly Avenue told police Monday that she sent money to a person claiming to be a military official nine days earlier. An investigation is pending.

DUI

  • Officers responded to a crash about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at North and Elm avenues. The driver was found to be drunk, police said. The driver was taken to Loyola University Medical Center.
