Coroner Reveals Name of Woman Fatally Hit by Train in Elmhurst

The office also shared the official cause of her death.

The DuPage County Coroner has shared the name of the woman who was fatally hit Oct. 9 by a Metra train near the Elmhurst station.

The woman was Patricia C. Johnson of Elmhurst, according to the coroner’s office, and the preliminary cause of her death is massive traumatic injuries.

The coroner’s office reports Johnson was 85 years old. The investigation continues, pending toxicology reports.

A concerned neighbor reported Wednesday that an elderly woman who lived alone had not been seen since Friday afternoon, according to the City of Elmhurst. Elmhurst police performed a well-being check Oct. 14 for Johnson, who lived at Liberty Village, 415 North York Road.

Detectives determined that she was the same woman who was died Friday after she was hit by an inbound No. 52 Metra train east of York Road, near First Avenue and Palmer Drive.

Witnesses told police they saw the woman step in front of the train. She had only a house key on an orange ring and eyeglasses in her purse.
