Richard Frederick Hammerschmidt, 84, of Elmhurst, passed away peacefully on March 12. He was the son of Alvin and Verna Hammerschmidt of Elmhurst. After serving the U.S. Army in military intelligence during the Korean conflict, he returned to Elmhurst to work for Hammerschmidt &amp; Franzen Lumber Company, at 100 Prospect Avenue.
