Dog Argument Prompts Elmhurst Disturbance Call: Cops
In another case, a woman alleged animal cruelty in her home, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving domestic disturbances, animal cruelty, aggravated DUI, stolen converters, harassing calls and porch piracy. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Domestic disturbances
- Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of South Kenmore Avenue. The suspect, who had been drinking, argued about someone else's dog. The parties were separated for the night.
- Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of South Cottage Hill Avenue. Police said a woman alleged that her stepson made a threat during an argument. The stepson said he never meant the threat.
- A resident in the 700 block of South Poplar Avenue told police Monday that her son kicked a garbage can after being told he could not leave the house to meet with friends.

- A resident in the 600 bl
ock of West Belden Avenue told police Monday that her ex-fiance had been mistreating their dog. An officer checked on the dog, which appeared to be in good health.
Aggravated DUI
- Leonard S. Wierzgac, 72, who lives in the 100 block of North Michigan Avenue in Elmhurst, was arrested about 4 p.m. Monday at Schiller Street and Robert Palmer Drive on charges of aggravated DUI, aggravated driving with a revoked license and speeding. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
Stolen converters

- Employees from Instrumentum, Vertical Chimney Care and SB Smith & Associates, all on Industrial Drive, told police Monday that catalytic converters were removed from a total of six vehicles in their parking lots between Sept. 5 and Sept. 8.
Harassing calls
- A business at 1015 S. Route 83 told police Tuesday that it had been receiving harassing phone calls and text messages. The suspect told the business that he might come to Illinois. An officer contacted the suspect, who said he had no plan to come to Illinois.
Porch piracy
- Someone stole a package between 10 a.m. and 10:25 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment building in the 100 block of North Addison Avenue. The suspect returned it to the original store and received a gift card for the return.
Resisting officers
- A 30-year-old Joliet man was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Elmhurst Metra station, 128 W. First St., on charges of resisting officers, obstructing identification and trespassing on railroad property. He was also wanted on three warrants. Elmhurst police said they were asked to help with a drunk person on a train. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
DUI
- A 54-year-old Woodland man was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at York Street and Grand Avenue on charges of DUI (drugs), possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of ammunition without a firearm owner's identification card, driving with a suspended license, improper lane usage and driving an uninsured car. Police said they were called about a reckless driver. He was taken to the police station and then released.
