Dogs From South Korean Meat Farm Arrive At Elmhurst Shelter

ELMHURST, IL — Several dozen dogs who were rescued from a dog meat and puppy mill in South Korea arrived in Elmhurst recently. ABC-7 first reported on the "special delivery" in which the Elmhurst Animal Care Center accepted more than 60 of the 200 or so dogs that originally were sent from South Korea to Toronto.

Andrew Plumbly of Humane Society International says the dogs came from "nightmarish" conditions in South Korea. Some of them may be ready for foster care already, while others may need to get medical care first.

Scroll through the images atop this article for a look at some of the dogs that were taken in. They will soon be ready for adoption, the animal shelter confirmed Wednesday.

Until then, donations for care of the dogs are accepted through the Magnificent Mutts rescue. Contact them via their website to make a monetary donation.

Supplies for the dogs can be dropped off directly at the Elmhurst Animal Care Center, 850 S. Riverside Drive in Elmhurst. Food, bedding, toys, cages, blankets and towels are always accepted there.
