13 Townhomes Set For Elmhurst Neighborhood

The local developer is seeking zoning permission for the housing.

ELMHURST, IL – A local developer is planning 13 townhomes for a western Elmhurst neighborhood.

The townhomes would be at the northeast and northwest corners of Third Street and West Avenue. One of the lots is occupied by The Independent Newspapers, which publishes the Elmhurst Independent, among others.

The developer is Elmhurst's John Pembroke, owner of Island Construction.

In 2023, the City Council approved Pembroke's plan for 30 townhomes for a vacant lot at 240 W. Lake St.

For the latest development, Pembroke is asking for the city's permission to position the townhomes toward West Avenue, with vehicle access at Third.

The neighborhood is a mix of businesses and housing.

The Zoning and Planning Commission is slated to review the developer's request at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.
