Monday, July 29
- A new session of Zumba Gold, for the active older adult or individuals new to exercise, will begin Monday and run through Sept. 2 at Courts Plus, 186 S. West Ave., Elmhurst. Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations that allow participants to dance away stress. The class, which meets from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., is free for Courts Plus members, $60 for nonmembers. Call (630) 833-5064.

- Cupcake Wars at Elmhurst Public Library, for kids entering grades six through nine.
- Summer Fun & Games: Tapping Tambourines: Turn the beat around by making a colorful, jangly tambourine to get any party started. For children ages 4-12 accompanied by a caregiver. No reservations required. Elmhurst Historical Museum Education Center, 1-3 p.m. Members $1, nonmembers $2

- In addition to Elmhurst Farmers Market, Cool Cars and Live Music downtown, Wednesday also means Classic Cinemas' Wednesday Morning Movie Series. This week, it's "Escape from Planet Earth." Fun for the whole family, Rated PG and it only costs $1!

- The City of Elmhurst is kicking off the very first Downtown Discount Days this week. Twenty-three downtown retailers will offer special discounts, School of Rock will provide the music, and there will be free snacks. Look for posters in the windows of participating retailers.
- AAUW Used Book Sale: Thousands of used books, CDs, DVDs and videos will be available at the annual used book sale sponsored by the Elmhurst Branch of AAUW. Well-organized into more than 30 categories, the four-day sale features a large children’s section, as well as a collector’s area. Proceeds benefit AAUW educational grants and local scholarships. The book sale will take place at Jackson Elementary School, 925 Swain, Elmhurst, from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free every day but Thursday, when there is an entrance fee of $10 per person plus $10 per scanner. Call 630-834-1426 for further details or email pingbok@comcast.net.

- Students from School of Rock's summer camp will perform at Elmhurst Historical Museum's second floor gallery from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday's genre is modern rock. More info here.
