Drifting Elmhurst Driver Later Pronounced Dead: Cops

In other cases, local police responded to five domestic disturbances in the last few days.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a driver's death, domestic disturbances, a gun charge, a fire, theft, a fall and DUI. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Driver dies

  • A resident saw a car traveling east about 9 a.m. Saturday on North Avenue near Kenilworth Avenue, when the driver drifted over the lanes and struck the resident's bushes. The driver was found slumped over the center console. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance shortly after midnight Thursday in the 300 block of East Huntington Lane. A person said a man had battered him during an argument. No one was arrested because of conflicting statements and no visible injuries. Both people agreed to leave for the night.
  • A witness said she saw a woman being battered by the woman's boyfriend about 11 a.m. Saturday in the 500 block of West Third Street. The alleged victim denied being hit. No arrests were made because of conflicting stories. Both people agreed to separate for the time being.
  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 10 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of South West Avenue. A man said another person had battered him during an argument. No one was arrested because of conflicting stories and no signs of harm. Both parties agreed to separate for the time being.
  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 4:30 p.m. May 8 in the 300 block of North Van Buren Street. A woman said someone else pushed her during an argument. An investigation is pending. The incident was reported more than two weeks later.
  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 5 a.m. Monday in the 800 block of South Berkley Avenue. Officers determined it was an argument and that nothing physical occurred. Both people agreed to separate for the day.

Gun charge

  • A 23-year-old Glendale Heights man was arrested about 3 a.m. Sunday at North Avenue and York Street on charges of possession of ammunition without a firearm owner's identification card, disobeying a traffic signal and driving with an expired registration. He was released.

Fire

  • A box of fireworks was on fire about 10 p.m. Thursday at Eldridge Park at Spring Road and Harrison Street. The fire was put out. Police could find no suspects.

Theft

  • A red and black backpack leaf blower was stolen about 11:30 a.m. Saturday from a trailer near Butterfield Road and Hillcrest Avenue. An investigation is pending.
  • Two people stole alcohol about 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Elmhurst Food and Liquor, 416 N. York St. An investigation is pending.
  • On Thursday, someone entered an Elmhurst University dorm room and stole money. An investigation is pending.

Fall

  • A person fell about 10 a.m. Monday at Cottage Hill Avenue and Church Street. Medics treated the person, who declined to go to Elmhurst Hospital.

DUI

  • A 27-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 1 a.m. Monday at North Avenue and York Street on charges of DUI, failure to signal when required, speeding, wearing no seatbelt and driving an uninsured car. He was taken to the police station and then released.

Fugitive driver

  • About 1:30 a.m. Friday, an officer saw a white Nissan Maxima that had been stolen in Chicago. The officer tried to stop the car, but the driver sped away, last seen heading east on Interstate 290.
