Driver Crashes In Elmhurst Backyards

A 911 caller reported hearing a boom and finding a car in a backyard.

ELMHURST, IL – A car crashed into backyards Thursday night between Elm Park and Claremont avenues, which are south of Elmhurst University.

The driver was a 37-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 200 block of South Berkley Avenue, police said.

About 10 p.m., the man was driving west on Elm Park when he left the roadway and drove through a yard, striking a tree, fences and the rear of a house on Claremont, police said.

The man was charged with DUI (drugs and alcohol), driving an uninsured car and failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

Police said no one was injured.

A dispatcher told officers, "A caller said they heard a boom. They looked outside, and a car drove through the backyard."
