DUIs, Heroin Deals: Elmhurst Police Blotter

Take a look at what the Elmhurst Police Department has been up to these past few days.

The below incidents took place between Nov. 3 and Nov. 6 in Elmhurst. Take a look at what the police were busy with this past weekend.

Drugs

  • Corey M. Salinas, 31, and Melissa J. Barber were both arrested following a drug deal at York and Belden. When stopped by a police officer after the transaction, Corey tried to get rid of a winter glove that contained four foils of heroin. Barber confirmed the drug deal to the police and both were charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, arrested and taken to DuPage County Jail. Salinas was also charged with littering.
  • Mark Betlejewski, 23, was cited with possession of marijuana when he was stopped on the road by police. He also had drug paraphernalia in his car. He was released on the scene.
  • Roger L. Person, 61, was charged with Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance when he agreed to sell heroin to an undercover police officer.
  • Quintin C. Wright, 26, was arrested for speeding and being in possession of marijuana. He also had both a suspended license and registration. He was released on bond.
  • Gustavo Gomez-Hipolito, 20, rolled a marijuana blunt in plain view on the 400 block of N. York Rd. A police officer saw him and cited Gomez-Hipolito for possession of cannabis.
  • Keith Campbell, 21, and Caitlin Denz, 21, were both charged with possession of cannabis after police investigated the two after fearing an argument was getting out of hand.

DUIs

  • Enrique Cruz, 31, was arrested for driving under the influence and having both marijuana and drug paraphernalia on him at the time. He was released on bond.
  • Freddie Pinto, 33, admitted to having been drinking when he was stopped by police after he ran a flashing red light. He also had marijuana, drug paraphernalia and open alcohol in plain view in his car. He was arrested, faced with several charges and was released.
  • Gerardo Arroyo, 45, was arrested for driving under the influence when he ran his car into a light pole. He had also been driving on the wrong side of the road and without insurance. He was taken to jail.
  • Joseph Bonfield, 45, was pulled over for a lane violation and found to be under the influence of prescription drugs. He was taken into custody, charged and released.

Stalking

  • A woman living on the 200 block of N. Indiana said that on Nov. 3, she thought she saw her neighbor’s dog walker taking pictures of her from outside her home.

Retail theft

  • A mother called in a police officer to deal with a situation in which her daughter had stolen items from both Walgreens and CVS over a period of time. The daughter said everything she’d stolen was still at home and that she would bring it all to the police station the next day; the mother wanted her charged with retail theft.

Public intoxication

  • Daniel Alsteen, 41, was kicked off the Metra for being publicly drunk. He was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

Underage drinking

  • Police officers noticed some underage kids leaving Berens Park — which was closed at the time of night — Nov. 4 and found them to be dangerously drunk. They were taken to Elmhurst Hospital based on the amount they’d had to drink, and one of the kids made suicidal remarks.

Property damage

  • Several instances, all similar, were reported Nov. 5 when homeowners noticed that an unknown offender had thrown rocks through their house windows, shattering them. Incidents were reported on S. Kenilworth, E. St. Charles and Cottage Hill. The victim on Kenilworth said they saw an older model of a Ford Escape speeding down the street at the time of the incident.
