Edison Elementary's New Principal Named

He now serves at a school with a negligible number of students coming from low-income families.

ELMHURST, IL – The Elmhurst School District 205 board on Tuesday appointed a new principal for Edison Elementary School.

Larry Joynt is set to start in July. He is now the assistant principal at The Skokie School in Winnetka, which serves fifth and sixth graders. The school is part of Winnetka Public Schools, where Joynt has been an assistant principal since 2019.

As of last year, Joynt made $111,000 in Winnetka, according to a compensation report. His Elmhurst salary is set at $127,500.

In Winnetka, Joynt works at a school with a negligible number of students coming from low-income families, according to the Illinois Report Card. The school serves about 360 students.

At Edison, 6 percent of the 310 students are considered low-income. Edison's grades are kindergarten through fifth.

Joynt is replacing James Pluskota, who announced his retirement more than a year ago. Pluskota has been at the helm for 18 years.

Joynt holds a master of education degree in educational leadership from Concordia University Chicago. He has a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Governors University in University Park.

According to a District 205 news release, Joynt has played a key role in Winnetka in advancing social-emotional learning, literacy initiatives and professional learning communities.

For a time during the pandemic, Joynt led Crow Island Elementary in Winnetka as the principal on special assignment.

District 205 said it was planning a meet-and-greet event for Joynt in the spring.
