Elder Neglect, Fake IDs, 6 DUIs: Elmhurst Police Blotter

Take a look at what the Elmhurst police have been up to for the past week.

The following items were taken from the Elmhurst police blotter throughout the past week. Arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

DUIs

  • Christian Carmona, 27, was stopped by police early in the morning on Feb. 17 for improper lane usage and subsequently arrested for driving drunk. He was released on bond.
  • Police were called to 654 W. North Ave. the night of Feb. 18 to find Pawel Ceglinski, 41, who’d been reported as driving under the influence. He was also driving with his underage son in the car, and was arrested.
  • Oscar Merino-Jiminez, 26, was stopped at a roadside safety checkpoint at Lake and Walnut Feb. 18 and arrested for driving drunk, operating an uninsured vehicle and not having a valid driver’s license.
  • Mirna Morales, 32, was stopped by cops just before 1 a.m. Feb. 19 at St. Charles and West for improper lane usage and ultimately arrested for driving drunk.
  • Joseph Cuomo, 32, was charged with driving drunk when he was stopped at a Grand and Church roadside safety checkpoint early in the morning of Feb. 19.
  • Nicholas Ruiz, 18, was arrested for drunk driving after an officer approached his parked Nissan Altima at 990 N. York St. around 3:30 a.m. Feb. 19. His car had two flat tires and “fresh” passenger side damage, cops said.

Fake ID

  • Weston Nottleman, 19, was arrested around 11 p.m. Feb. 16 for getting into Fitz’s Pub at 172 N. Addison Ave. with a fake ID. Kelsey Lowe, also 19, was with Nottleman and charged with the same crime. Lowe also faced charges for illegal consumption of alcohol.

Domestic abuse

  • A woman living in the 600 block of West Belden told Elmhurst police that around midnight on Feb. 17, she and her husband started arguing because she had gone out. She said her husband grabbed her around the neck and struck the left side of her face, which caused her to call for help. The husband didn’t face charges at the victim’s request.

Neglect

  • An Elmhurst resident told cops that she had hired someone to take care of her mother, who lives in the 500 block of North West Avenue. She said she was notified on Feb. 15 that the helper, who was supposed to “provide assistance with basic living needs,” had left her mom alone at 1 a.m. and never returned. The suspect is facing charges of elder neglect.

Retail theft

  • Several children were accused of retail theft Feb. 17 when they reportedly stole almost $50 worth of merchandise from the Gaming Goat at 152 N. York. An employee said he had noticed them making secretive movements in the store before they left and he found things missing. The kids were found at 143 N. York, referred to peer jury and released to their parents.

Identity theft

  • An Elmhurst resident living in the 100 block of Poplar told police that on Feb. 9, she was notified by Verizon that someone she didn’t know opened a Verizon account using her personal information. She was able to close the account before she lost any money.
