Elmhurst Arrests Uber Driver's Attacker: Cops

The suspect was angry over the driver's route and then hit him, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police arrested a man who attacked an Uber driver at a local gas station, authorities announced Wednesday evening.

Darius D. Palmer, 28, of Hillside, was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery in a public place.

Early Saturday afternoon, the Uber driver picked up Palmer from an Oak Brook restaurant for a ride to a Hillside address, police said in a news release.

During the trip, Palmer became angry over the driver's route, police said. That caused the driver to feel unsafe, so he pulled into the BP gas station at 217 E. Butterfield Road, police said.

Palmer struck the driver in the back of the head and then ran away north through an alley, the news release said.

The driver was treated for minor injuries at Elmhurst Hospital, police said.

Police could not find Palmer in the area. They went to the Hillside home where he asked to be taken to, but he was not there.

The next day, police reached Palmer by phone. On Monday, he turned himself in at the Elmhurst police station, the release said.
