Elmhurst Boasts One Of Nation's Youngest Taekwondo Champs

He is soon headed to the national championships.

ELMHURST, IL – Matt Biberoglu, a third-grader at Jefferson Elementary School in Elmhurst, is a state champion in taekwondo. He is said to be one of the youngest second-degree black belts in the United States.

He is soon headed to the USA Taekwondo National Championships, which is a pathway to qualify for Team USA Trials.

He started taekwondo at 5½ and is now 8. He trains every day from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. His master sends him to different schools for cross-training.

He started playing hockey in June and qualified for the 12-and-under Icedogs hockey team, scoring more than 50 goals in the season.
