Elmhurst Firm Victim Of Payroll Scam: Police
A fraudulent email led the business to change a worker's direct deposit information, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a payroll scam, theft, domestic battery, soliciting without a license, fireworks and porch piracy. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Payroll scam
- Through the Woods Therapy & Wellness, 340 W. Butterfield Road, received a fraudulent email, which appeared to be from an employee, requesting a change to direct deposit information. The business complied and later found out the employee did not request the change. The employee's paycheck was deposited into an unknown account. The crime was reported Saturday.
Theft

- A person bought a Chime card with cash and then grabbed the money used to load the card about 6:30 p.m. Friday at Walgreens, 160 N. Robert Palmer Drive. An investigation is pending.
Domestic battery
- Police responded to a domestic battery about 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Fellows Court. A man told officers that his girlfriend slapped, grabbed and pushed him. The woman denied the allegations. No arrests were made because of conflicting statements and the lack of physical injuries.

- Police responded to a reported battery about 4 p.m. Saturday in the 700 block of South Prospect Avenue. The people gave conflicting accounts. No physical injuries were seen.
Soliciting without a license
- A 22-year-old Bountiful, Utah, man was cited about 8:30 p.m. Friday at Highview and Fremont avenues on a charge of soliciting without a license.
Fireworks
- A 31-year-old Hanover Park man and a 23-year-old Park Ridge man were cited about 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of Highview Avenue on fireworks possession charges.
Porch piracy
- A package was stolen between Aug. 22 and Aug. 28 in the 200 block of East First Street.
