The 22nd annual Elmhurst Garden Walk is scheduled for Sunday, July 9.

ELMHURST, IL — The 22nd annual Elmhurst Garden Walk is scheduled for Sunday, July 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. According to a release, tours of six home gardens will be offered on the walk this year, in addition to the York Community High School garden. The district said the corresponding Garden Faire in Wilder Park will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features vendors with perennial plants, and unique garden accessories. In addition, a new feature this year is the child-friendly Monarch Butterfly Festival, also located in Wilder Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day. The event is sponsored by the Elmhurst Garden Club and Elmhurst Cool Cities Coalition, and admission to that exhibit is free.
According to a release, tickets for the Garden Walk may be purchased for $15 prior to the event at the following places: Amlings Flower Shop, Carousel Flower Shop, Elmhurst Camera, enzee Boutique, NuCara Pharmacy and The Uptown Shop. They will be available on the day of the event for $20 at the Faire’s ticket booth. Proceeds benefit the Mildred Hartney College Scholarship Fund and community horticultural projects, such as the York High School Garden.

"For the past several years, members of the Elmhurst Garden Club have worked with students from the York High School Garden Club to help educate these young people on various aspects of gardening as they worked together to create new garden spaces at the school," Donna Fredrickson, President of the Elmhurst Garden Club, said in a release. "Students today need opportunities to reconnect with the natural world. Gardening offers ‘hands on' learning opportunities in a wide array of disciplines. Hopefully, through gardening activities, students will deepen their sense of connection to nature and inspire environmental stewardship."
Andrew Bendelow and Lauren Yun serve as faculty advisors to the York Community High School Garden Club.
